Salutations Everyone! President of The SHO here! Tired as ever! But still going! LOL

Boy has it been a busy couple of weeks! But I finally have a minute to sit down and tell you about The SHO’s 2019 FALL CELEBRATION!

IT WAS SO AMAZING! Let’s just say, when I got home after the event, I bawled, tears of joy! And for those of you who are friends with me on FB, you saw my LIVE of my just crying with snots all over my face! LOL

Let me tell you all about it!

Well, as you know, the day before Halloween, they “postponed Halloween” (I’ve never seen such madness in my life, but whatever)…Early in the morning, on October 30th, I had the honor of briefly discussing the Fall Celebration on CJAD 800, thanks to Sarah Deshaies…By the end of the day, on October 30th, we had 80 kids registered, and our goal was 60 children! We decided to close the registration on October 30th, because we didn’t want to have too many children because we figured that if there were too many children, it would be too crowded, and the kids wouldn’t have enough space to run around.

The day was finally here! I packed up my SUV with all of the FALL CELEBRATION stuff, and headed to Loyola High School with my youngest daughter… Thanks to the staff at Loyola High School, I had 2 Loyola students who volunteered to help me setup for the event, and they met me at the door to help me unload my vehicle. Mr. Denburk Reid greeted me as well, and before I knew it, he got other students to help me…In all honesty, I don’t know how I would have set up that entire gym, before 6pm, without those boys. I was beyond grateful!

Due to the horrible weather outside, I was worried that we wouldn’t have a good turnout…In the beginning, there weren’t that many people…

But boy was I wrong! My good friend, Tammy Ojibe-Grant, who takes on the job of signing in the kids at the door, said to me at one point in the night “Sabi, we have over 60 kids!” My heart was full of joy…

Every year, The SHO’s Fall Celebration gets bigger and better! But this year brought me to tears… Why was I so emotional? Because there was so much more diversity in the attendees! This event is normally only black children, that’s not the way that I intended it to be, it just seems to happen this way. This year, as I looked around, it looked like a multicultural event, and this is what I’ve always wanted for this event! I’ve always wanted to see different people, with different skin colors, different backgrounds, just coming together to enjoy a fun and safe evening: this year, I got just that. Everyone seemed to be having a good time, and the atmosphere just seemed to be filled with love, security and happiness! Another thing that humbled me, and made me so happy was the amount of treats we had to share! Last year, we ran out of treats, and this literally made me cry! This year, we had an abundance!

I would like to thank my community for making The SHO’s 2019 Fall Celebration a success! I honestly couldn’t have pulled this off without your help!

I would like to Impeccable Lenz for coming by to take professional photos at the event!

I would especially like to thank LOYOLA HIGH SCHOOL for opening their doors to us! I couldn’t find a location before, so without them, this event would not have happened!

Here is my complete list of “thank yous”; these are the people that really went out of their way to help me! If I forgot your name, I apologize in advance! There’s a lot going on in my brain!

THANK YOU!
